SUNS SCORE SEVEN TO TOP WEST VIRGINIA

HAGERSTOWN, MD – The Hagerstown Suns (12-12) showed balance as they scored seven runs to beat the West Virginia Power (9-16) 7-1 to take game one of their four game series.

The Suns’ Colten Willems threw six brilliant innings only allowing one run and three hits. Kyle Gunderson and Edulin Abreu finished it out combining for one hit and three strike outs over the final three innings.

In the bottom of the first Hagerstown scored two runs with two outs as Michael Burgess hit a RBI single to score Bill Rhinehart then an error by West Virginia starting pitcher R.J. Seidel scored Aaron Seuss off of a slow dribbler down the first baseline.

The Suns would strike again with two more in the bottom of the second with a home run by Dan Lyons to right-center field and a RBI ground out by Francisco Plascencia that scored Jake Smolinski.

The Power would get their lone run in the top of the fourth with a home run by catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Suns pitchers took over to retire 18 of the last 19 Power hitters.

The Suns would tally three more in the bottom of the seventh as Lyons tripled to center and scored on a Rhinehart ground out. Four straight singles to center would give the Suns all they would need to capture the victory.

The win is the Suns fourth straight victory and their six of their last eight games.

The Suns and Power will play game two of their four game series on Wednesday, April 30th at 1:05 P.M. Gates will open at Municipal Stadium at 12:05.
