SUNS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT OVER GRASSHOPPERS

GREENSBORO, NC – After taking a seven-run lead, the Hagerstown Suns (11-12) held on to defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers (12-11) 8-6 on Saturday. The Suns have won the first three games of the series at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC.

After the Grasshoppers scored a single run on two hits and an error in the bottom of the second inning, the Suns scored eight straight runs to take an 8-1 lead.

Hagerstown’s offense got started in the top of the fourth inning on a two run home run by Michael Burgess, his seventh of the season, and added two more in the top of the fifth on three hits.

Designated Hitter Tim Pahuta hit his second home run of the season to lead off the sixth inning before Burgess hit his league-leading eighth home run of the season in the top of the seventh. The homer by Burgess came with two runners on and gave the Suns an 8-1 lead.

Greensboro battled back against the Hagerstown bullpen, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning along with one in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 8-5.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Suns reliever Clint Everts entered the game and after retiring the lead-off hitter walked the next three batters he faced. Everts struck out the next two batters he faced, but a wild pitch allowed Greensboro second baseman Ryan Curry to reach base on strike three and a run to score as the Suns lead was down to two runs.

After the wild pitch, Everts struck out Greensboro first baseman Ryan Anetsburger to earn his second save of the season.

The Suns and Grasshoppers will the final game of their four game series on Sunday, April 27th at 5:00 P.M. at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC.
